What to Expect During Your Immigration Medical Exam: FAQs

To ensure a smooth and efficient exam, please bring the following items:

• Government-issued photo ID: Such as a valid passport or driver’s license.
• Vaccination records: Translated into English if necessary.
• Form I-693: Download the latest version from the USCIS website and complete Part 1. Do not sign it until instructed by the civil surgeon.
• Medical history documents: Including any chronic conditions or treatments.
• List of current medications: Including dosages.
• Payment: Check with our office regarding accepted payment methods.

Bringing these items will help us complete your exam efficiently and accurately.

The immigration medical exam is designed to identify any health conditions that could affect your admissibility to the U.S. It includes

• Physical examination: Assessment of your general health.
• Tuberculosis (TB) testing: A chest X-ray or skin test, depending on age and risk factors.
• Blood tests: For syphilis and other communicable diseases.
• Urine test: For gonorrhea screening.
• Vaccination status review: Ensuring compliance with U.S. immigration requirements.

USCIS requires proof of vaccination against several diseases, including:

• Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
• Polio
• Tetanus and Diphtheria
• Pertussis (Whooping Cough)
• Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib)
• Hepatitis A and B
• Varicella (Chickenpox)
• Influenza (seasonal)
• Pneumococcal disease
• Meningococcal disease

Note: As of March 11, 2025, the COVID-19 vaccine is no longer required for immigration medical examinations.

If you lack documentation for any of these vaccines, we can administer them during your visit or discuss where you can receive them .

Once your exam is complete:

• We will provide you with a sealed envelope containing your completed Form I-693.
• Do not open this envelope; it must remain sealed for submission to USCIS.

Submit the sealed envelope to USCIS as part of your immigration application process.

The validity of Form I-693 depends on the date it was signed by the civil surgeon:

• Signed on or after November 1, 2023: Valid indefinitely.
• Signed before November 1, 2023: Valid for two years from the date of the civil surgeon’s signature.

As of March 11, 2025, USCIS no longer requires COVID-19 vaccination for the immigration medical exam. However, applicants must still meet requirements for other routine vaccines depending on age and medical history. If you are unsure what is required for you, we can review your records and guide you through the process.

Most immigration medical exams can be completed in one visit, but timing depends on required lab testing (including tuberculosis screening) and whether any vaccinations are needed. Once all required results are back and your exam is complete, we prepare your sealed Form I-693 packet for USCIS. Our team will let you know the expected timeline at the time of your visit.
